Why is a high school graduate preparing for another chance to enter college called 浪人? What were some of the stealth tricks ninja used? Why are there so few women of power in Japanese politics? Foreigners often have questions like these about Japan. In this class, you’ll have plenty of chances to explain and discuss the answers to these questions and many others related to these two topics. Using handout questions, photos, and video clips, you’ll have lots of opportunities to have lively discussions in English about them.

I was born in Chicago (Illinois, U.S.A.) and grew up in one its south suburbs. I spent three years in the U.S. Marine Corps, then entered and graduated from Southern Illinois University with bachelor’s degrees in Broadcasting and Journalism and a minor in Japanese. I have taught English in Japan for more than 16 years. I live in Matsudo and like to play tennis and go bowling at least once a week.
